Process

As a profession, video production is a unique combination of two disciplines. It is an art form that requires creative intuition, but it is also a trade in the traditional sense, because it requires a deep set of skills and a genuine desire to work with a client to achieve their vision.

I love bringing both approaches into my work. The beginning of a project is the abstract, creative phase, when the product exists only in conversations and notepads. Then, in the technical process, we work backwards from that vision to design an efficient production that meets all of the creative goals. This way, using a set of initial parameters, I can ensure the final piece is worthy of its vision.

Projects

I majored in Film Production at Bard College. After interning for independent film director John Sayles, I then moved on to editing videos for a society photographer in New York City.

I was the recipient of the Damaris Horan Fellowship at the Royal Oak Foundation, which sent me to the United Kingdom to partner with the National Trust. Working directly with the Press Office and the Head of Gardens, I developed videos for a national conservation campaign for historic works of 18th-century landscape architecture. I partnered with an experienced drone pilot, and together we traveled through England and Wales, filming aerial and ground-based footage at 20 historic estates and conservation properties.

I edited the footage into a series of short films, which were shown on-site at the heritage properties and distributed through the Trust’s online media channels.

The Trust then commissioned me to make a series of curatorial films depicting the organization’s conservation work, and these projects were screened at international heritage conferences for organizations such as the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the World Monuments Fund (WMF).

After this, I started my own aerial videography company here in the United States, using what I had learned about the industry during my time in the United Kingdom. As Creative Director and Co-Founder of the company, I and my three partners provided aerial video and photography services to the commercial and industrial real estate industries.

Seeking a return to the educational goals of the nonprofit sector, I joined the staff at the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching professionals, students, and enthusiasts about classical and traditional design. First as a Video Producer, and then after expanding the role to Director of Video Production, I have served as the lead producer on a variety of projects: a series of documentary films on national television, transforming the organization’s educational model into a hybrid-virtual platform, directing professors in developing their in-person courses into video lectures, and developing marketing content for magazine publications and social media.
